Arrows

about

I can watch the sun, the moon and the sparkling stars play day and night. A magic role-play which proves that the world is still spinning. …Unfortunately it does not prove that everything is okay.

The clouds pile up and shape a dark threatening monster with shifting faces. Evyn needs to be fast, even if he has no place to go. All these racing leaves driven by the storm appear to be signs pointing him in the right direction. He needs a miracle to survive the hunt. Evyn reaches a lonesome house. Its front door stands wide open and the boy hopes that it is not the site where the puffy monsters dwell. This is an eerie place, I know. But Evyn, you have to be brave. Just promise me – you will be safe. Evyn reaches the kitchen at the end of the dark hallway. The thunder shakes the window above the sink and the next lightning flash gives Evyn the chance to catch a brief glance into the backyard. It takes him to bygone times…

Back then we always seesawed the minutes away until lunchtime. We used to climb on rooftops every day. ...In the morning we used to watch the fog patches disappear into thin air. We used to wait for rainy days to smell the summer rain. Brother, when are we going to jump over puddles again? It‘s late and the rumbling is coming closer. I wish the staircase would lead me to a nice quite spot, although it ends up in total gloom. I‘m afraid of midnight. I am alone. The closet makes me feel at home and the wax on the wooden floor reminds me of our Sunday nights. His tales always led me back – they led me back to the bright side. No thunderstorm, no whirlwind, not even an earthquake would have ever been able to fight him. I lean back to watch the fabulous creatures come alive in candle light. The thunder fades, he holds me tight. Mom kneels down to kiss us goodnight.

lyrics

The thunder has gone and daydreaming kept me alive. The storm has changed into a light breeze, so lovely and kind. The clouds flew away to let the sun shine. I won‘t shed hope and freedom is mine. I came down to the porch to inhale the breath that daybreak sends. The leaves found their peace once more and a few are stroking my hands before they land on the wooden floor. I would give everything to have him right beside me. A sudden noise makes me turn around. Mom appears in the door frame to wave me goodbye. Son please hurry! I want you to be back soon again. The forest welcomes me with open arms. Here in the dense and peaceful undergrowth is no space for concrete walls. The cities are a long way away now and the nightingale chirps again. The delightful scent of pine wafting up to my nose embeds me in total perfection. I‘m reaching a birch tree, which glows so bright, standing in between the conifers. A scene so complete and familiar. Five hand-painted arrows nailed to its stem point in different directions. Grey looks too sad. The red one wants to send me back. The arrow painted blue is pointing up to the sky remembering me to keep my head up high. Green or rose? It‘s up to you. In the end you‘ll reach your destination. Rose or green? It‘s up to me – I do already feel the white foam of the sea.
